Amiri background
Amiri has been operating in the South-central region since 2005 delivering a wide range of schemes in the education, industrial, office, retail, leisure and residential sectors.
We employ around 55 direct employee’s and have a strong tried and tested supply chain that have worked closely worth Amiri on our journey to becoming the brand of choice on the south cost.
As a local company are passionate about what we do and prides ourselves on working with the local community, it is essential that we work hard to build the communities and infrastructure required but also to look after the environment people live in.
“Our Ambition”
Amiri want to reduce our emissions to Net Zero by 2050. This is a big statement and one that we are committed to achieving but we cannot do this in silo.
Working with our clients, designers, and supply chain we believe that we can decarbonise our business and our delivery projects.
There is a poignant saying which brings home the importance of reducing our carbon footprint and our effect on greenhouse gasses
“We have not inherited the world from our ancestors, but borrowed it from our children”
We must all take action and responsibilities for what we do and how we act in our day to day lives. There are some simple small changes that we can make now and some more ambitious strategy’s that need a little longer to plan and integrate with our business model and environmental management system, but ultimately are achievable with our overall plan.
As part of our strategy to become a more sustainable business and to reduce our impact on the built environment we are looking to align of business model, policies and procedures with the United Nations sustainability development Goals known (SDGs) are also known as Global Goals.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked objectives designed to serve as a “shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet now and into the future.
The 17 targets cover many aspects of how we can become more sustainable and socially responsible in how we act and carryout our business.
For the Carbon reduction plan we will be working within the 13th Tile “ Climate Action”.
In addition to the Sustainability Development Goals, Amiri are committed to follow the guidance and measures that the British Government have agreed to follow knowns as PPN 06/21
In 2019, the UK became the first major economy to adopt a legal commitment to achieve ‘Net Zero’ carbon emissions by 2050. To support this, the Government Commercial Function has developed a new commercial policy measure for all central government departments and arm’s length bodies.
This measure requires suppliers bidding for major government contracts to commit to achieving Net Zero by 2050 and publish a ‘Carbon Reduction Plan’.
Around 80% of our emissions and Green House gases come from our construction sites.
We will be using energy and fuel to power our site cabins, the plant and machinery we need to construct and refurbish buildings. We will install energy monitoring equipment on site, so that we can better understand the impact of our projects.
We will be focussing on eliminating fossil fuels from our construction sites – one way we’re achieving this is through procuring electricity that is 100% natural renewable.
We will use eco-cabins on all our projects and continue to seek the most efficient cabins possible. We will ensure our cabins are equipped with a range of energy-saving technologies such as lighting controls, timed heating controls and better insulation. Our cabins will set up in a way that makes it possible to switch off equipment overnight and at weekends, without turning off equipment that needs to stay on.
Wherever we can, we use plant and equipment powered by electricity rather than diesel, since it produces fewer emissions. Sometimes this can be a challenge – it can take a while to get a site connected to the grid, so we will encourage our team to make early grid connections.
When we hire equipment, We will have a preference for kit which is less than 18 months old, because the newer the equipment, the more energy efficient it is.
We currently occupy 2 office buildings – both of which are leased. Although the emissions amount to less than 5% of our total carbon emissions, we are committed to working with our landlords, so that by 2040, at the latest, We only occupy offices that are zero carbon in operation. Each of our offices is developing a Sustainability Management Plan.
Each of our offices will develop its own sustainable travel plan, which encourages visitors and employees to make sustainable travel decisions. A key area of focus is installing EV charge points at all our offices.
