Project Overview

A state-of-the-art Pathology Laboratory for the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust.

The new two-storey, purpose-built facility provides cutting-edge medical science laboratories, offices and staff welfare spaces, supporting a wide range of pathology research and diagnostic services.

The development also includes an access road, car parking, cycle stores, and landscaped surroundings, creating a modern, efficient environment that enhances the Trust’s capability to deliver advanced healthcare services.

The project was completed to the highest technical and clinical standards, meeting the stringent requirements of NHS facilities. Following practical completion, a five-month commissioning and client fit-out period was managed collaboratively with the end users to ensure a seamless handover.

Key Challenges & Solutions

Specialist Coordination: The complexity of the pathology environment required careful coordination of numerous specialist contractors and highly technical systems.

Amiri implemented a detailed interface management plan and regular coordination workshops to align all mechanical, electrical, and specialist fit-out activities.

Operational Continuity: Working within a live hospital estate demanded strict control over logistics, noise, and safety to avoid disrupting clinical services.

A phased delivery plan, strict access management, and daily communication with the Trust ensured full operational continuity throughout construction.

Commissioning and Handover: The post-completion phase required extensive client engagement to ensure equipment integration and readiness for occupation.

Amiri maintained a dedicated on-site liaison team to support commissioning, training, and final quality assurance, ensuring a smooth and successful transition to the end users.

Project Outcomes

The Pathology Laboratory significantly enhances diagnostic capacity across the University Hospitals Dorset Trust, supporting innovation, research and faster patient testing and reporting. The facility has been designed for long-term flexibility, allowing future adaptation as technology and clinical needs evolve.

The project demonstrates Amiri’s ability to manage complex healthcare builds, working alongside multiple stakeholders to achieve precision, safety and performance excellence.
