Project Overview

Refurbishment of existing the Stour Building ground floor to create a new catering hub.

This project involved the strip-out, alteration and refurbishment of the existing Stour Building ground floor to create a new catering hub, along with hot desking office space, meeting rooms, staff rest areas, locker spaces, WC facilities and a plant room.

As the works were carried out within a live hospital environment, careful planning and coordination were essential to minimise disruption. The floor above remained in use as office accommodation, requiring particular attention to potentially disruptive activities such as breaking out concrete floors. To mitigate this, the team scheduled these works outside of regular hours and utilised electrically operated equipment for cutting and breaking concrete, significantly reducing noise and vibration.

Key Challenges & Solutions

Live Hospital Environment: Construction within an active hospital required close collaboration with hospital management to coordinate access, safety and working hours.

Noise and Vibration Control: Disruptive works were scheduled outside normal hours and carried out using electrically powered equipment to minimise impact on staff.

Health and Safety Compliance: Stringent health, safety and infection control measures were maintained to ensure a safe working environment for hospital staff and patients.

Project Outcomes

The refurbishment has delivered a modern, efficient and high-quality workspace that enhances staff wellbeing and supports the hospital’s operational needs. The project demonstrates Amiri Construction’s capability to successfully deliver complex works within live NHS environments, maintaining safety, quality and programme performance throughout.
