Project Overview

Delivering Sustainable Affordable Housing for New Forest District Council in Totton.

Amiri was appointed by New Forest District Council to deliver the design and construction of 20 new affordable homes at Salisbury Road, Totton. This marked the second project delivered in partnership with the Council and formed part of its wider commitment to providing sustainable, energy-efficient housing across the district.

The scheme involved the demolition of existing properties at 37–39 Salisbury Road to make way for two contemporary apartment blocks featuring zinc and masonry cladding. Located close to Totton town centre, the development transformed a previously developed brownfield site into high-quality social housing designed in accordance with the government’s Future Homes Standard and nationally described space standards.

The development incorporated extensive landscaping and external cycle storage to enhance the living environment for residents. All homes were designed with advanced insulation, high-performance glazing and low-carbon heating and ventilation systems to maximise comfort, sustainability and long-term energy efficiency.

Over the past year, we have experienced ongoing noise and dust due to the construction work. However, I would like to highlight that Dan has been extremely considerate and understanding throughout. He has always taken on board any issues – whether minor or more significant and has responded in a professional and respectful manner. We have found him to be approachable, helpful, and proactive at all times. Dan and the Just Work First team have consistently been polite, courteous, and helpful – particularly in giving us notice about dust so we could bring the washing in !! Dan is a real credit to your company. I am confident he will continue to do excellent work and contribute to many more successful and high-quality builds in the future.

Project Outcomes

The completed development delivered 20 high-quality homes for social rent, providing much-needed affordable housing for residents registered on the Council’s Homesearch housing register. The project demonstrated New Forest District Council’s ongoing commitment to delivering greener, lower-carbon homes that support both residents and wider climate objectives.

The energy-efficient design reduced anticipated running costs for residents while creating comfortable, modern living environments built to future-focused sustainability standards. The scheme also enhanced the surrounding area through thoughtful landscaping and contemporary architecture, successfully regenerating a previously developed site close to the town centre.

Delivered with support from Homes England, the project stands as another successful collaboration between Amiri and New Forest District Council, helping address local housing demand while promoting sustainable residential development across the district.
