Project Overview

Amiri delivered a new 13-bedroom assisted living development in Paulsgrove, providing vital accommodation for families in need of specialist support.

The scheme comprises five four-bedroom flats designed for families with disabled children, alongside eight one-bedroom flats intended for families who require live-in carers. The building also includes a welcoming reception area and a range of communal rooms, complemented by associated external works that integrate the facility into the surrounding neighbourhood.

The site, located at the centre of the Paulsgrove housing estate, had remained derelict for nine years before being transformed through this project. Portsmouth City Council required modern assisted living properties to meet local demand, making this development a much-needed enhancement to community provision. The facility was named Patey Court in honour of Councillor Jim Patey, recognising his contribution to the area.

Key Challenges & Solutions

Working in the Heart of a Residential Community
The site was located within a busy housing estate, with homes directly surrounding the development. Minimising disruption to residents was essential.

Amiri established clear communication channels with the local community and Portsmouth City Council, carefully managing site traffic, noise and working hours to ensure the project progressed smoothly without adversely affecting everyday life in the neighbourhood.

Integrating Renewable Technologies into a Complex Residential Scheme
The installation of ground source heat pumps and rooftop solar panels required precise planning to work effectively within the building’s layout.

Early engagement with specialist contractors ensured the renewable systems were integrated seamlessly, supporting the development’s achievement of a BREEAM Excellent rating and providing long-term energy efficiency for Portsmouth City Council.

Delivering Multiple Assisted-Living Unit Types with Varied Requirements
The building included different types of accommodation, some designed for families with disabled children and others requiring space for live-in carers.

Amiri coordinated closely with occupational health specialists and the client team to ensure layouts, accessibility features and services met the specific needs of all future residents.
