Project Overview
Design and construction of a two-storey construction skills centre.
The project involved the full design and build of a dedicated construction skills centre incorporating specialist classrooms and workshops tailored to brickwork, carpentry and joinery. The internal layout was carefully planned to create realistic working environments that mirror professional construction settings, enabling students to gain hands-on experience using industry-standard tools and equipment. Teaching spaces are integrated with practical workshop areas, allowing theory and application to sit side by side within the same facility.
The building has been designed to encourage collaboration between different construction disciplines, promoting a cohesive learning culture across trades while reinforcing the wider campus identity. Sustainable principles were embedded throughout the design, with the integration of renewable technologies and energy-efficient systems reflecting a clear commitment to environmentally responsible construction. The centre not only teaches construction skills but also demonstrates sustainable building practices through its own fabric and services.

Project Outcomes
The completed facility delivers a modern, professional-grade training environment that bridges the gap between education and industry. Students benefit from immersive, real-world learning experiences within spaces specifically designed for their trades, improving skill development and readiness for employment. By providing access to contemporary equipment and purpose-built workshops, the centre enhances the quality of vocational training and supports the progression of learners into the construction workforce.
The project has strengthened the college’s capacity to train the next generation of skilled tradespeople while reinforcing sustainability as a core principle of both the curriculum and the built environment. Overall, the Northbrook College Construction Trades Centre stands as a future-focused educational asset, equipping students with the technical competence, practical experience and collaborative mindset required for successful careers in construction.
