Project Overview

Following the success of the Merston Packhouse development, Amiri was appointed to deliver a further major facility for Kingsbridge Estates – the “Drayton” packhouse for Natures Way Foods.

The scheme expanded the Chichester Food Park campus, providing additional capacity for the processing and packaging of fresh produce.

The development comprised a 90,000 sq ft single-storey portal-framed warehouse that accommodated state-of-the-art food packaging operations. To the front elevation, a 35,000 sq ft steel-framed two-storey office and ancillary building provided space for management, training, meetings, staff welfare and cafeteria areas.

Extensive external works included the creation of dock loading bays for lorry access, large concrete service yards, staff and visitor car parking, plant service areas, and new foul and surface water drainage systems incorporating attenuation tanks.

Amiri achieved early access for the client’s specialist fit-out, with Natures Way Foods commencing works just 15 weeks before the end of Amiri’s main build contract. Amiri also retained overall responsibility for coordination and oversight of these works to ensure seamless integration with the base build.

Key Challenges & Solutions

Programme Integration: Careful sequencing and proactive coordination allowed specialist fit-out works to commence ahead of completion, maintaining quality while achieving early access and programme efficiency.

Extensive External Infrastructure: Large service yard and drainage installations were delivered under tight timeframes, requiring detailed planning to integrate complex underground attenuation systems and maintain progress.

Quality and Hygiene Standards: Coordination between architectural, structural, and MEP teams ensured all finishes and building systems met the rigorous hygiene and operational requirements of a food production environment.

Project Outcomes

The Drayton facility enhanced Natures Way Foods’ operational capacity and efficiency, providing high-quality, purpose-built spaces for both production and management teams. The building delivered long-term value through robust construction, modern design, and energy-efficient systems, supporting continued business growth within the Chichester Food Park. Early completion and close collaboration with the client enabled a smooth transition to fit-out and operational readiness
