Project Overview
Construction of a Landmark Church for Emsworth Baptist Church.
Amiri was appointed to deliver a new church facility for Emsworth Baptist Church, creating a landmark building in a prominent location at the heart of the town. The project was conceived as a statement development that would serve both the congregation and the wider community, combining striking contemporary architecture with highly functional internal spaces.
The new-build facility was designed to maximise the constrained site footprint through a multi-faceted form featuring intricate angles and strong architectural detailing. The external appearance combined high-quality brickwork with zinc roofing and a distinctive modernist portal tower incorporating colour-changing glass, creating an instantly recognisable presence within the town centre.
Internally, the building was designed to be light, open and welcoming. It included a 296-seat auditorium with a baptism pool and stage, a generous foyer with a fully equipped kitchen and café servery, along with administration offices and storage areas. The completed building provided a flexible and inclusive space capable of supporting worship, community events and social activities.

Key Challenges & Solutions
Delivering a Complex Architectural Form on a Constrained Site
The building’s intricate geometry and prominent town-centre location required careful coordination to maximise space while maintaining buildability and quality.
Detailed pre-construction planning and close collaboration with the design team ensured that the complex angles and interfaces were accurately set out and delivered. Sequencing was carefully managed to maintain programme and quality while working within the tight site footprint.
Integrating Specialist Heating Within the Main Auditorium Floor
The main hall was heated via a below-floor plenum system, requiring a high level of precision during installation.
Over 1,000 individual slots were precisely cut into the engineered timber flooring to accommodate the heating system. This work was carefully coordinated and quality-checked to ensure both the performance of the heating system and the integrity of the finished floor were maintained.

Project Outcomes
The completed Emsworth Baptist Church delivered a distinctive, high-quality building that has become a focal point within the town. Delivered on budget and on programme, the facility now provides a modern, flexible and welcoming environment for worship, community gatherings and social interaction.
The light-filled interiors, high-quality materials and carefully integrated technical solutions have resulted in a building that is both functional and inspiring. Now established as a central hub for the community, the church successfully supports a wide range of activities and demonstrates Amiri’s ability to deliver complex, design-led projects to exacting standards.
