Project Overview
A 2,496 m², BREEAM Excellent – rated development that formed a key part of the college’s ongoing campus redevelopment.
The three-storey building connected seamlessly to the existing Mountbatten Building, creating a new northern boundary to the central courtyard and enhancing the overall cohesion of the campus.
The facility provided nine state-of-the-art laboratories, along with dedicated preparation rooms, staff accommodation and a café serving both students and staff. Designed with sustainability and functionality in mind, the Science Block delivered a contemporary learning environment that met the college’s high academic and environmental standards.

Key Challenges & Solutions
Integrating with Existing Infrastructure: The Science Block needed to connect seamlessly with the existing Mountbatten Building while maintaining uninterrupted use of surrounding facilities.
Through careful planning and phasing, the project team coordinated construction activities around the college’s academic calendar and existing utilities, ensuring minimal disruption and a smooth interface between the old and new structures.
Achieving High Sustainability Targets: Meeting the BREEAM Excellent benchmark required close attention to materials, energy performance and environmental impact.
Sustainable building systems, high-efficiency services and responsible sourcing of materials were incorporated from the outset, supported by rigorous design reviews and quality control measures.
Managing Costs Without Compromising Quality: Delivering a high-quality facility within budget constraints was essential.
By applying lessons learned from the earlier Nobel Building Phase 2 project, particularly regarding the metal deck flooring system, the team implemented cost-saving efficiencies while maintaining durability and performance.
“We have found Amiri to be responsive to the needs of the College and agile in developing and delivering the required buildings and facilities. They were keen to provide value-for-money options and listened carefully to what we wanted.”
