Project Overview
The design and build of a new two-storey, 1,947m² Art & Design School, further strengthening our long-term partnership with Barton Peveril College and supporting its community of 5,000 students.
The building provides a state-of-the-art learning environment tailored to the needs of the College’s creative disciplines.
The facility accommodates six modern classrooms, five art and design studios, an IT suite, a specialist hot works room, a preparation room and extensive storage areas. Complementing these spaces are a welcoming lobby, breakout areas, and dedicated administrative and staff accommodation, all designed to foster collaboration and creativity within a bright, inspiring setting.
The northlight, two-storey design maximises natural daylight, creating optimal conditions for creative work. Working collaboratively with CBG Consultants and our MEPH design contractor, the Stage 4 design focused on low-carbon performance, energy efficiency and buildability.
Construction took place within a live, fully operational college campus, close to the rear entrance. Meticulous planning and coordination ensured minimal disruption to students and staff. Clear pedestrian routes, secure entrances, site signage and banksman systems were established, with close collaboration with college security throughout the build.
Special attention was given to health and safety. PC planks were used for composite floors, avoiding the need to lift large pre-cast concrete units near teaching spaces, enhancing safety and reducing disruption. Value engineering measures during preconstruction optimised sustainability, cost efficiency, and programme performance, including an alternative wall construction that met thermal performance targets while reducing materials and construction time.

Project Outcomes

The facility supports low-energy, low-carbon operation, fostering a comfortable and inspiring learning environment. Students were provided with valuable work experience opportunities during construction, one of whom has since joined Amiri as an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor.
