Project Overview

A state of the art football training facility for AFC Bournemouth.

Amiri successfully delivered a state-of-the-art 57-acre training campus for AFC Bournemouth, completed in March 2025. The New Performance Centre brings together the first team, academy and development squads within a single, purpose-built environment designed to strengthen the club’s long-term competitive edge.

Delivered within a live operational setting, the project required careful phasing and coordination to ensure training schedules continued uninterrupted. Close collaboration between the client, contractor and supply chain enabled construction works to progress safely alongside daily football operations.

The building’s design transitions from a low-profile single-storey form to a distinctive three-storey structure, incorporating a reinforced concrete frame, curved geometry, bespoke roofing and aluminium rainscreen façade. The architecture is carefully integrated into the surrounding landscape to reduce visual impact and maintain player privacy.

At its core is a high-performance medical and sports science suite, including an altitude training chamber, hydrotherapy pool, elite gym and rehabilitation spaces. The wider campus includes 16 professional pitches, changing facilities, classrooms, media areas and operational support spaces — creating a clear pathway from academy to first team.

Community value is embedded in the scheme. The facility has hosted local football camps and school engagement initiatives, while the newly created Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) provides accessible landscaped areas for residents, ensuring lasting environmental and social benefits.

Key Challenges

Live Site Coordination:
Maintaining uninterrupted training during construction required detailed programming, controlled access routes and strong communication. A proactive, non-adversarial approach ensured operational continuity.

Complex Structural & Technical Integration:
The curved structure, reinforced concrete frame and bespoke façade demanded close interdisciplinary coordination. Specialist systems – including altitude and hydrotherapy facilities – required precise installation, commissioning and integration.

Ground & Weather Constraints:
Built on a former golf course, the scheme involved significant ground stabilisation and regrading. Prolonged heavy rainfall impacted sequencing, but flexible planning and supply chain collaboration kept the project on programme.

Environmental Responsibility:
All excavated material was reused on site for landscaping and level formation, reducing vehicle movements, waste and embodied carbon while improving logistics efficiency.

Working for a Premier League club is very challenging, and Amiri applied themselves in a professional manner at all times and also under difficult circumstances, especially during the handover and post handover to complete their works.

Project Outcomes

The completed facility delivers a world-class performance environment that enhances player preparation, recovery and long-term development. Consolidating all squads on one campus strengthens collaboration across coaching, medical and analysis teams and supports academy progression.

The project has also generated local employment, strengthened regional supply chains and reinforced confidence in the club’s long-term strategy – contributing to further infrastructure investment.

Through technical expertise, collaborative delivery and environmental consideration, Amiri has provided AFC Bournemouth with a future-ready training facility that supports sustained success on and off the pitch.
