Project Overview

A purpose-built teaching and collaborative workspace delivered under a design and build contract.

The building comprises six research laboratories, three meeting rooms, two business incubation suites, and a link corridor connecting the new facility to the existing Block D.

The development was designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating, with Scott White Hookins appointed to provide the sustainability assessment. Situated within a live college campus, the project required close coordination between the site team, subcontractors, and the client to minimise disruption to ongoing academic activities. The completed building delivers a modern, flexible environment that supports research, innovation and professional collaboration for both students and staff.

Key Challenges & Solutions

Working Within a Live Campus Environment: The site was located in an operational college, requiring construction to proceed without disrupting students or staff.

The project team implemented weekly coordination meetings between the client, subcontractors and site team to carefully plan all activities. Access routes and work zones were managed to minimise interference with campus operations.

Achieving BREEAM Excellent Standards: The project needed to meet stringent environmental and sustainability requirements while maintaining functional and flexible teaching spaces.

Sustainable materials and energy-efficient systems were specified from the outset, and the design was closely monitored against BREEAM criteria. Regular assessments by Scott White Hookins ensured the project remained on track to achieve the required rating.

Since Amiri Construction Ltd.’s arrival at Farnborough College of Technology, they have demonstrated; care, attention, consideration and pride.  Not only in their standard of work which they are delivering, but by ensuring that all relevant parties are informed, information is accessible and available, the pride taken to keep a working site presentable and tidy, applying best practice and updating whenever necessary.
