We’re proud to showcase the completed photos from Bartlett Arboretum – a truly unique project that reflects innovation, sustainability and craftsmanship.
Delivered for Bartlett Tree Experts, this landmark development provides almost 800m² of specialist laboratory, research and office accommodation, creating the UK’s first Scientific Research Arboretum in Spencers Wood, near Reading.
Designed as three distinct buildings connected by both an open timber colonnade and an enclosed glazed glulam timber link corridor, the scheme demonstrates how sustainable construction and outstanding architecture can work hand in hand. Constructed using a Passivhaus-style SIPS timber structural system, timber and zinc cladding, steel screw pile foundations and steel support ring frames, every element was carefully considered to seamlessly integrate the buildings within the 50 acre site and deliver long-term performance and environmental responsibility.
Inside, the buildings feature exposed glulam beams, impressive double-height spaces and high-quality finishes. Externally, extensive landscaping, access roads, pathways and walkways complete a campus designed to inspire research, collaboration and innovation.
The building is a celebration of timber as a construction solution, showcasing the importance of trees and the vital research that helps us better understand their environmental, human and structural benefits. It will have a lasting positive impact by supporting scientific research, education and sustainable development for years to come.
